Even if you cringe at the idea of trying to do math in your head, numbers in general are too much fun. We’ve collected some of the most intriguing numbers associated with Florida, where we live, breathe, dance, play – and create the coolest sun shirts you could ever meet.

Now it's time to meet some fun facts.

Florida by the Numbers

Beep Beep

1,000: Number of people who move to Florida. Every. Single. Day. Yikes! No wonder traffic gets backed up to high heaven.

Fore!

1,300: Number of golf courses in Florida, giving us the distinction of the U.S. state with the most golf courses. When you need a rest from playing the game but still want to be immersed in it, you can always visit the World Golf Hall of Fame and Museum in St. Augustine.

Hill of a Time

345: Number of feet above sea level of Florida’s highest natural point. The distinction goes to Britton Hill, located in Lakewood Park in DeFuniak Springs. You’ll find this quaint town in the Florida panhandle. As a comparison, the highest peak in the U.S. is California’s Mount Whitney, soaring 14,494 feet above sea level. New York City's Empire State Building stands at 1,250 feet.

Coasting to Greatness

8,436: Number of miles of coastline in Florida. Nice! Florida ranks first in line for the most coastline in the lower 48 states, although it’s beat out by Alaska’s nearly 33,904 miles of coastline overall. Florida’s coastline is split between the 3,341 miles along the Atlantic Ocean and the 5,095 miles along the Gulf of Mexico.

Beachy Keen

60: Maximum number of miles you are from a beach, no matter where you are in Florida. REALLY nice!

Lovin' the Lake

700: Number of square miles of the largest lake in Florida, Lake Okeechobee. This freshwater lake is third in line when it comes the largest freshwater lake wholly within the U.S. Slot number two is taken by Alaska’s Iliamna Lake, which spans 1,150 square miles. The top slot goes to Lake Michigan, which boasts a surface area of 22,300 square miles.
