Size charts give you a standard reference to help determine the best size sun shirt to get based on body measurements. Since shirts typically go by chest size, these charts provide an overview of sizing as it relates to chest measurements in inches. 

Measure the chest area by wrapping a tape measure around the middle of the chest and then noting the circumference. Men measure below the armpit. Women measure around the fullest chest area. Keep the tape measure as close to the body as possible without being too tight or causing discomfort. 

If you are in between sizes, it’s recommended you go for the larger size. A roomier sun shirt is much more comfortable than one that is too tight. You may also want to size up if you are planning to wear a bathing suit or other apparel beneath the shirt.
